Have you ever wondered what it's like to study at university? Do you want to discover your potential and have life/work experience? Do you want to obtain a degree but are unsure what direction to take or what subject area is best for you? If so then the free Step up to HE Course is specifically designed to enable you to move towards your goals. Formal qualifications are not essential and all applications are welcome.

This is a bespoke event aimed at 1st year BTEC students from colleges in the Staffordshire, West Midlands, Shropshire and Cheshire areas. The students will be able to choose up to 3 different workshops through the day from a wide range of subjects offered by the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies. There will also be some general aspiration-raising talks offered by the UK Recruitment team.

Annual Early Childhood Studies Conference

Want to discover your potential? Ever wondered "what if?" If you have answered YES to any of these questions then this event will be for you! Access Your Future is an event designed to advise, inform and guide you about the opportunity to study at degree level Let us show you that it's not too late and that you can gain a degree. All day event with access to valuable information including a student finance talk, improving your employment prospects and opportunities to talk to tutors/mature students.

"Open Mic" charity night

An Open Mic night at Ember lounge in aid of the Grocott Centre. The Grocott centre is a local charity which provides support for adults with physical disabilities and dementia. The Charity night is a fun event open to all over the age of 18. A raffle will also take place on the night.

Imagining the future – developing a County wide mental health strategy

We are at the beginning of several major strategic and organisational changes relating to the delivery of Mental Health Services, such as the merging of the Public Health Department with the Local Authority and reduction in funding to charities and voluntary organisations providing mental health services. Professor Patrick Pietroni will look at other initiatives and experiments to explore how we may rise to the challenge of ‘Imagining the Future’. The presentation will be in the form of ‘work in progress’ and will pose some searching questions. Register your attendance with Larissa Hicks to book your place by Friday 31 May.

BTEC Twilight Evening

The event is intended to provide the opportunity for BTEC learners who have not considered University or are not currently holding offers from Universities to come along meet tutors and admissions staff, and could possibly ‘leave with an offer’ of a place on a course at Staffordshire University. Members of staff from the UK Recruitment Team will be there to provide talks on ‘where your BTEC can take you’ and student finance , provide help and advice regarding the UCAS process (if students are currently not registered with UCAS), and also provide campus and accommodation tours.

Business Funding Update

This is the University’s annual business funding round-up. Several speakers and exhibitors will come in to discuss funding options available in the region for business start-up and growth. Speakers will cover the following topics: angel investment funds and venture capital; bank loans (Gurpreet Jhand); other types of loan funds (Kathy Poole/Ben Dyer); sourcing business funding (Pete Ball); Crowdfunding; University interventions available.

Teachers and Advisors Conference

Staffordshire University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Gunn will be giving the keynote speech to launch our annual Teachers and Advisors Conference. Professor Gunn has recently been appointed as Chair of million+, a University think-tank focused on enabling people from all walks of life to benefit from access to universities; promoting collaboration between universities, business, government and other sectors and celebrating the strength and diversity of the UK higher education sector. His keynote address will cover the important role Universities like Staffordshire have to play in the economic future of the UK, and how in a climate of increased tuition fees, we are having to better inform students, teacher and careers advisors about the costs and benefits of a University education. Representatives from UCAS and Student Finance England will also be delivering presentations at this “free” conference.
